I always loved making these and will switch out the meats for packaged turkey or beef slices and prosciutto is amazing as well! Switch up the flavor of cream cheese and the flavors of pickles.

However, the best switch I have done is chopping the pickles and meat up and thinning the cream cheese and mix it all in together! Serve with crusty bread, tortilla chips, crackers….YUMMIEST

Your suggestion to lightly spread cream cheese but evenly as possible is important.  I chill them before slicing. Makes for a cleaner slice
