PIN Mediterranean Salad Dressing to try it later!

This Mediterranean Salad Dressing uses the Middle Eastern spice called Sumac, a favorite ingredient I discovered through blogging. If you’ve eaten at a Middle Eastern restaurant that had a dark reddish spice on the table, that was Sumac. I’ve used this citrusy-flavored spice in lots of recipes, and quite a few readers have told me that they tried it and liked it.

I loved using Sumac in this delicious dressing that’s loaded with Mediterranean flavors from red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Sumac, Greek Seasoning, Greek Oregano, and olive oil! And if you’re still not acquainted with Sumac, I’m hoping this dressing will be reason enough to get you to try it. This is a combination I came up with after experimenting a few times to get Mediterranean flavors we thought were just right!

I love the flavors in this dressing, and it’s something I use regularly when I’m having guests and need a simple side dish salad If you do try the Mediterranean Dressing with Sumac, I’d love to hear in a comment about what type of salad you used it on!

What is Ground Sumac?

Ground Sumac (affiliate link) maybe be an ingredient you haven’t used but it’s a dried spice from the middle east that’s well worth adding to your spice cabinet! And I think Sumac is essential to making this Mediterranean Salad Dressing sing with flavor. Sumac has a slightly lemony flavor that goes well with so many foods. You can read more about Sumac here if you want to see the plant it grows on and a great list of dishes that use Sumac.

Does Mediterranean Dressing keep in the fridge?

This Mediterranean Dressing is simple to make and keeps in the fridge for at least a few weeks (or probably longer, but it doesn’t last longer than that at my house.)

What salad veggies taste good with this Mediterranean Salad Dressing?

This dressing tastes great on all types of lettuce and on milder leafy greens like spinach. It’s delicious on tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplant, cauliflower, mushrooms or zucchini. And if you’re someone who eats dried bean salads occasionally, this is a delicious dressing for something like that.

How to Make Mediterranean Salad Dressing:

(This is only a summary of the steps for the recipe; please scroll down for complete printable recipe. Or if you use the JUMP TO RECIPE link at the top of the page, it will take you directly to the complete recipe.)

  1. I like using a shaker jar, because there’s no bowl to wash! I have several types of shaker jars, but if you don’t have a special jar just shake up the dressing in any jar with a tight-fitting lid.
  2. Here’s the Sumac I bought years ago when I was visiting Lydia in Boston. I’ve bought many jars or tins of Sumac since then, but this photo does show off the color.
  3. Start by combining the red wine vinegar, lemon juice, Sumac (affiliate link), Greek Seasoning (affiliate link), Greek Oregano (affiliate link), and black pepper in a jar.
  4. Then add the olive oil and shake like crazy.  Taste and see if you want a little more oil.  That’s it!
  5. Enjoy the Mediterranean Salad Dressing on a variety of greens, vegetables, or dried beans.
  6. Store extra dressing in the refrigerator.
